organization must be from the mind.
at the utmost seven broad principles may be as the
open conspiracy and holding it together. and it is even of
these, one, the seventh, may be, if too restrictive, at
unnecessary. to the writer it seems unavoidable because it is
intimately associated with dying out of upon
which our hopes for and expanding human future rest. |
we do not present it as initiated by individual or
radiating from any particular centre. in this book we are starting
something; we are and participating in something which has
started. it arises naturally and necessarily from the present increase
of knowledge and the broadening outlook of minds throughout the
world, and gradually it becomes conscious of . it is
therefore to its appearance all over the world in
mutually independent groupings and movements, and to not
only that will be various, but many of will
trail with racial and regional habits and characteristics which
will only be off as cosmopolitan character becomes
imperatively evident.
the passage from the partial anticipations of open conspiracy that
already abound everywhere to complete and completely
self-conscious statement may be by imperceptible degrees.
to-day it may seem no more than a idea; to-morrow it may be
realized as -wide force of and will. people will pass
with no great inconsistency from saying that open conspiracy is
impossible to that has always been plain and clear to ,
that to fashion they have shaped their lives as as can
remember.
in its opening phase, in day of things, quite minor
accidents may help or the clear definition and popularization of
its main ideas. |
| the changing pattern of events may disperse or
concentrate attention upon it, or may win the early adherence of
men of resources, energy, or . it is to
foretell the speed of advance. its development may be or
faster, direct or , but logic of realizations
thrusts it forward, will persist in it on, and sooner or
later it will be , conscious and potent, the working
religion of sane and energetic people.
meanwhile our supreme virtues must be and persistence.
so far we have considered only two of main activities of open
conspiracy, the one being its propaganda of in possible
world commonweal, and the other its immediate practical attempt to
systematize resistance to and competitive imperialism and
nationalism. but such are its groundwork undertakings;
they do no more than clear the site and make the atmosphere possible
for its organized constructive efforts. |
